As a 2+ yr old pup, he was a force! A very affectionate, very physical, very "airborne," and loving to learn pup. we tried beginning agility (not good for old human), scent work, Rally, FastCat, and most important, as he is a Vizsla, we focused on BIRDS. He has earned his show Championship. He has passed the three required Odor Recognition Tests to make him eligible to enter NACSW trials, has competed in an AKC Scent trial, but any scent games are game.
For 2 years a big focus for him is the field, and thanks to a wonderful "neighbor," we worked hard in that arena. He is steady to wing and shot, is retrieving well. Releasing the bird is still a "discussion," but he has on phenomenal nose for the birds and loves the game. We were lucky enough to have a mentor and trainer in this new venue for us. And she is not 100+ miles away.
Luc entered his first Field trial, and ran well. No placements as he needs experience and steadiness. BUT, he ran the entire course, found 3 birds! So, it was a win for us. His second Field Trial resulted in 4th (out of 17) place!
With much discussion with a wondeful trainer, I learned that because I trained Luc to KNOW where I am (essential skill in off leash life) I reduced his "field distance" drive. Some time sooner or later we will go to the Hunt Test world to play there. Birds are currently on the back burner as we work on his Rally and Scent titles.
Most of all, Luc is a gentle, powerful boy. He has a deep desire to please, and I so appreciate that temperament!
