Today is a "Sow Day" and I am catching up on my web site. Kai has a UCH in front of her name because she has a UKC Championship-with a Best in Show at a UKC show. UKC is not my "golden measure" but the local training club I belong to holds the shows, and as I had to run the kitchen, Kai went to practice her show skills. A Junior Handler that she never sees showed her for me, and they had a very successful day!
LIfe has been full of walks, aand little else in the way of training. Life has been full of other issues, but the dogs are healthy. My hope is to get out in the filed and do some bird work this spring (if the snow ever melts). Kai is also starting the basic training for agility. I do not rush this with my dogs, but she is mature enough and she is starting jump training.

Kai is Tega's daughter from the May 2008 (Mission) litter. She is spending the first two + weeks as a member of my household doing visiting. So far she has spent 4 nights with 3 Rhodesian Ridgebacks, is headed to stay a week with 2 grandchildren and their Vizsla and then will go spend 3 nights with a friend and her small dogs. Variety and exposure to different things is vital!
Kai is a gem (we may have to work on recalls with distractions a lot :>( ) but she went "with just me" to New York for 5 days.. This entailed 2 11 hr days in the car. I absolutely love her travel behavior. "In crate, go to sleep!" We stopped in Erie for a 30 min break with a long walk on some ball fields, and made 2 other short stops for potty breaks. She settled well at the Seminar-something hard for a 13 week old pup to do for 4 days of class as it can be very boring with little for a pup to do during part of the day. She got to be the guinea pig for some loose leash walking practice by the attendees, she played with some pups, had off-leash walks before and after the seminar began and always got to go run in the woods at lunch.
Now we are home for a month.. Swimming practice, bird work and intro to puppy agility are on the schedule. In Oct all of us are going to a cabin in PA with 3 other fiends and their dogs--- it looks like between 6 and 8 dogs will be attending... CHAOS but fun!

First time playing with KABOOM! (he is the high voice) ::: More play

Life has been full, so this January update is short, but full! Kai has been in her first shows and had fun, is growing, learning, in agility classes (all aimed at a PUPPY), and is way behind in bird work-but it will come. We went to De for our annual New Year visit with friends. Kai got LOTS of exercise with friends' dogs. Willow, the German Shepherd learned a lot from Kai, who was adept at realizing when Willow's excitement level was going too high. Kai would simply lay down and watch until Willow calmed down and the games would begin again. The Bull Terrier is Puffin, and if you look at Tega's page you will see Tega and Puffin playing when Tega was about a year of age. SO there is some special joy in seeing Kai playing with a much older Puffin, who has some health issues, even if at a much calmer level.

My Pennsylvania GREAT Adventure
This is the great Kai reporting on one of our most recent travels! Human Mom loaded up the big car with all three crates, lots of boxes and off we all went... To some place called PA. When we arrived and Mom opened the door and let us out (without leashes) we were at a cabin with ACRES and acres of places to run and hunt with our powerful noses. There were also 4 dog friends (some I had never met) to play with. The dogs are: an older golden (Shelby), a younger golden (Jester), a older lab (Teddy), and a Shepherd (Willow). It was wonderful! (yes there were 7 dogs and 4 humans in a fairly small cabin for 8 days)
... I have a new name, or is it four new names? I am either skeeter, fire-fly, hellion or bark-striper! The name barkstripper come from my talent at going into the wood piles by the wood stoves and pulling off long strips of bark to chew on, play with. I can pull of a strip all around the piece of wood- sometimes two turns around the piece1 I am smart!
...
One day we have the absolute joy of helping 4 humans grind over 75 lbs of venison so that it could all go home with us for dog food. We were fantastic helpers! There are some pictures of us waiting for our turn to help (pictures below).
We have run in some wonderful fields, we have had long play times- I absolutely love leading the german shepherd on races she cannot win. Sometimes the shepherd (Willow) targets Tega-mom and makes it hard for us to play. Kaboom loves to play with Willow as well.
... Jester (the younger golden) found some wonderful smelling pumpkins to roll in-time after time after time. His human mom got so mad at him that she put him in the kennel the cabin owners had until it was warm enough to give him a bath (it was 7 AM when he went rolling and there was frost everywhere). Kaboom found the pumpkin the first day and the bath he got convinced him it was NOT worth the pleasure.
...
We are all good traveling dogs. No fights, no snarls, just eat, play and run and sleep.
